Description

Enigma de las Rocas Trail: During your visit to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park, you can see the numerous species of birds, both migratory and endemic, that come to this wonderful Cuban site. Most importantly, you can see the people dedicated to researching and protecting the flora and fauna that make this wetland a Biosphere Reserve. Among the highlights of the area where the Enigma de las Rocas Trail is located: This area is part of the largest karst drainage system in the country: the Zapata Basin or Southern Basin of Matanzas Province, whose watershed mainly occupies the southern slopes of the province and the southwestern corner of Cienfuegos. As a result of karst processes involving block subsidence and the collapse of the upper portion of sinkholes, segments of different forest formations (mangroves, swamp grasslands, semi-deciduous forests, coastal xeromorphic scrub, and rocky and sandy coastal vegetation complexes) are associated, generating a wide variety of habitats and ecosystems in specific geographic areas.

ENIGMA DE LAS ROCAS TRAIL + SNORKELING IN BAHIA DE PIGS. PLAYA GIRON AREA, MATANZAS.

Activities:

• PART ONE: This consists of walking a trail of approximately 650 m to an open-air cavern known as CUBA-CZECHOSLOVAKIA. There, you can enjoy swimming and bathing, using a mask (optional). The landscape is very picturesque with numerous natural attractions, especially the native vegetation and fauna. The recommendations for this first part are to bring natural water, shoes such as tennis shoes, and some long-sleeved outerwear.

• SECOND PART: This consists of a guided snorkeling tour in the sea, at one of the most attractive spots on the east coast of the Bay of Pigs, just a few minutes by car from the trail already visited. After this tour, which should last approximately one hour, we will continue to Cienfuegos, with a possible optional lunch upon request.

This coastal stretch between Playa Larga and Playa Girón is home to several diving spots that allow us to enjoy this fascinating activity without using a boat. You only need to enter the water right on the shore (between one and two meters deep depending on the site chosen) and begin swimming perpendicular to it. In about 10 or 15 minutes, you will reach the wall that runs parallel to the coastline and is about 150 to 200 meters away, depending on the access point. At the upper edge of this wall we can find depths ranging from 6 to 15 meters and from there it drops almost vertically to isobaths of 300 to 400 meters, of course the maximum depth to which you descend will be determined by the certifications and experience of the divers signed up for these dives, in no case will we be below 40 meters, which is the maximum depth for recreational diving. Visibility is the main characteristic of this area, being able to find it of more than 40 meters, the area between the coast and the wall is colonized by different types of corals and sponges, sometimes forming small coral patches, already descending vertically, tile coral and tube sponges will predominate. At some points, cement boats used by various fishing companies in our country to fish off our platform have sunk. They are small, 16 meters long, and the objective was to create underwater environments at the dive sites. Almost all of them were sunk on the edges of the cliff from which the dive site descends. The fish are varied, and in some places we can find more diversity than in others.

Services not included in the excursion:

• Medical and high-risk sports insurance for the client.
