SANTIAGO DE CUBA Breakfast , departure for the Tour of Santiago de Cuba , with nearly half a million inhabitants , is the second most populous city in Cuba and one of the oldest of the island which was the capital before Havana . It was founded in 1514 by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar . Keep several vestiges of the Iberian colonization , including the cathedral, various administrative buildings and residences of Governors. Historically it has always played a central role in the political and military life of the island and later the nation , although situated in a bay fairly easily defended , it was often the subject of pirate raid , the harbor and fortifications nowadays have become tourist attractions. The most famous of these is the Castle of San Pedro de la Roca, a fortress which in 1997 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A city rich in history and music capital of Son music and the cradle of the Cuban Revolution . Lunch at a local restaurant. SANTIAGO DE CUBA-EL COBRE- BAYAMO -CAMAGUEY Breakfast . Departure to Bayamo . Visit, in transit to El Cobre Sanctuary . The Basilica of El Cobre is one of the most revered religious sites for the Cuban people . From different areas of the nation , the devotees rely on the faithful look to the Patroness of Cuba for spiritual consolation , solve their problems and desires. Located in El Cobre , a town in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, on the promontory of Santiago del Prado, has three naves , with a symmetrical facade . Its central structure with a dome ends , the aisles are surmounted by towers. The sanctuary is proclaimed as the Cobre Basilica December 22, 1977 by Pope Paul VI . The current Sanctuary of El Cobre , offering Mass every morning , which was inaugurated on September 8, 1927 has a solid silver altar and other ornaments of great value. Under the chapel is called the Chapel of Our Lady of Miracles, a small enclosure where the faithful lay their offerings : gold and precious stones , crutches , and other natural objects or Thanksgiving . CAMAGUEY- TRINIDAD Breakfast. Departure for Trinidad , passing through the city of Ciego de Ávila on the way. Panoramic tour of the city of Sancti Spíritus . Lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch visit to the Manaca-Iznaga Tower, in Sugarmill Valley, one of the most prosperous areas of Cuba in the 17th and 18th centuries, which still preserves its splendor—and whose economy is still based on sugarcane. From the high tower the Spanish colonialist used to vigilate over the slaves working on the fields. The ruins of Manacas plantations, sugar mills and old colonial farms are silent witnesses of past slavery. The tower was built in 1816, is characterized by eclectic architecture. The purpose of its construction was to watch from the labor of slaves on the plantations. Three bells in the tower, each with a different sound, signal the beginning and the end of work, days of rest, the escape of a slave, when the bells were ringing together signaled an invasion by pirates. TRINIDAD-CIENFUEGOS Walking tour through the historic city of Trinidad for its state of preservation faithfully reproduces the atmosphere of the colonial era . One of the most beautiful colonial cities of Cuba , was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 . Trinidad was founded by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar in 1514 with the name of Villa de la Santisima Trinidad. It is one of the best-preserved cities in the Caribbean , from the time when sugar was the main trade in these places. The remnants of the colonial period and slavery , which flourished in Trinidad,are the main attraction for visitors all over the world. Walking tour among the streets, visit to the city museum , the church of the Santissima Trinidad, stop at la Canchánchara bar where you can enjoy a typical drink whose recipe comes from the customs of the Spanish settlers who used the typical local ingredient , lime juice , brown sugar and rum. GUAMA- HAVANA Breakfast. Panoramic tour of the city of Cienfuegos . departure to CIENFUEGOS panoramic tour of the streets and the waterfront . The historic center of Cienfuegos was inserted in 2005 in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historical and cultural value . It contains six buildings dating from the first half of the nineteenth century , 327 in 1188 and dating from the second half of the twentieth century. Cienfuegos is the place with the highest number of neoclassical buildings among the Caribbean. Departure for the Montemar Natural Park in the Cienagas of Zapata , visiting Guamá located in the Zapata Peninsula in the province of Matanzas . Inside the Peninsula Zapata there are more than 900 native species of plants, 175 species of birds, 31 species of reptiles and more than 1,000 species of invertebrates. Some of the most notable are local endemic species in Cuba. Zapata is also known to the local endemic Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer ) . Within the peninsula there are several areas designated for environmental conservation , and Las Salinas wildlife sanctuary , which is part of the wider Biosphere Reserve which in total is more than 6,000 km ² and the largest protected area, not only in Cuba but also in the Caribbean. We visit a reconstruction of a typical village that the origins of Cuba was inhabited by Taino Indians built on stilts that can be reached after a short cruise on the lagoon.
